Law Enforcement Today article:

The Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act is important legislation that will force the mental health system to devote more resources to the most seriously ill. This will let the criminal justice system devote less. This should be welcome news to everyone.

Very good article! And very timely, with the recent post about how law enforcement is trained to deal with the mentally ill.

However, I don’t particularly like the tone of the article. It puts heavy emphasis on the violent mentally ill. This is the exact stigma that the mental health community has been trying to combat. The article should’ve mentioned the statistics, which show the majority of mentally ill are no danger to themselves or the community.

I applaud any efforts to improve the current state of the mental health community. As long as policy is driven by research and evidence.

Thanks, again, for the great article!

Blessings,

Anthony
