Hello! Welcome to the forums. Your brain was still in development when you where taking drugs, so I would think marijuana “didn’t help the situation.” Anyways it’s good you found this website, it’s a helpful outlet and welcoming place.
I beat myself up about smoking ordinary cigarettes. I think sometimes that made me worse. Don’t worry about the past, it’s gone.
welcome…
Well, pot can trigger scz in people with certain genes for it.
I won’t give a dissertation go google scholar search that crap. Or go watch the majority of people smoke pot and not become psychotic.
I have friends who have done all sorts of drugs in their late teens and early twenties who are not schizophrenic.
I’m trying to make you not blame yourself–this is a neurodevelopmental disorder much like autism is. We were destined to become scz. But we can say “■■■■ scz I want to be something else as well!”
Welcome and don’t blame yourself. This is permanent, and coming to a point of understanding what is wrong with you and accepting it is crucial. I suggest reading this article for a start http://www.nimh.nih.gov/about/director/bio/publications/rethinking-schizophrenia.shtml
Learning about what you have is important.
The article may sound a little bit like ducks quacking but give it a shot. A professor recommended it to me. Hopefully you can learn the basics of how you got here by reading the article.
I did isolate a lot. Felt very socially anxious as a teen, and still do. My alcoholic anonymous sponsor advised me to go outside my comfort zone in social settings, which helps. If I was under the influence of marijuana, forget about it though. I’d curl into a corner in the fetal position.
