Many of you are aware of the history of this day. But what does it privately mean to you?
For me, it means being free from society’s pressure: a pressure to be perfect, well adjusted, well behaved, “the queen”, a “super woman”, a lady. I wanna be just me. And I want every other woman to know: being just you is okay.
For me, it’s about embracing my femaleness. I’ve had serious male genital envy for years, but sometimes it’s nice to reflect on and enjoy being female.
These days usually fly by me without me noticing. But I might as well mention my mother, who is in fact a superwoman. Raising a full brood for five to ten years on her own with almost no help, with a full time job, and all the troublesome behavior that several kids left to their own devices can get up to.
Happy international women’s day My friend Gemma played me at Chess today for the first time and she beat me lol but i’m not allowed to be friends with her bc it is against the rules
I wonder how the other 974 genders feel about Women’s Day?
In all seriousness, women are EQUAL to men as HUMAN BEINGS. There are many things a woman can do that men simply couldn’t and viceversa. We’re created and designed that way by nature. Men wouldn’t be here without women and women wouldn’t be here without men.
Men in general need to acknowledge that misogyny is simply wrong. This is an issue about respect. Let’s collectively (men and women) elevate our standards worldwide and give each other the proper courtesy and respect we all deserve as human beings. We may have our differences, but men and women are the same species.
To feminists: plenty of male feminists on your side. To women: Happy International Women’s Day!
Women’s Day to me is a day to fight for a broader view on things. A more fair view. And that’s not just a problem with the patriarchy, it’s a problem with most feminists as well. And I’m a feminist - in the sense that I want equality between the sexes. But it seems to me that the women who live the most painful lives are the women who get the least attention on Women’s Day. And too many feminists are willing to ignore the history of feminism and instead try to make it into a club for middle and upper class women, not giving a single thought to the injustices towards men, the injustices towards trans people, or the injustices towards disadvantaged women, foreign women and immigrant women.
Yes, the wage gap is real. But it’s not the most important feminist cause of our time. And yes, talking about sexual harassment is important. But preventing rape and abuse is more important.
Men don’t take the other 364 days of the year. I’m not sure what you are getting at. This is a whole Month for women’s rights in the USA, at least. Men don’t get a holiday acknowledging them. You get a couple days acknowledging a “man” but not “men”. Feminism is still new so if you are wanting a holiday to celebrate a specific woman, there is still much time to achieve that. In 2 days, it is Harriet Tubman day - The leader of the underground railroad. Rosa Parks, the woman who didn’t move for a MAN on a bus is the kick starter for the civil rights movement deserves a holiday. You wouldn’t see me posting here without her.
Sorry, Arturo, was just making a joke…I didn’t mean to offend anyone. As a F-to-M transgendered person, I totally agree with celebrating parity of rights for EVERYONE.
for me, the barriers have come down a bit, not too much but will do in time, in the 80s i was told us girls werent allowed to play football or rugby at school it was a boys game.
so the teacher humoured me, and said you can do it if you get 11 girls to be on your team.
his shock and horror when i got the girls was so obvious lol
so we played rugby and football.
but it was such hard work convincing people back then that girls can do mechanics and paint and decorate and go up a ladder to window clean etc!!
so yes a few things have changed but it will be better when i am 90 and it will change even more xx
