Institutionalization

I’m sure that if the hospitals hadn’t closed all over the country I’d be a permanent resident.

As it is I learned to live without the structure and other things that go with the hospital.

But it took many years to learn how to occupy myself. And I am not as sick as I’d be in those places.

Do you suffer boredom much?

I keep myself entertained by following courses, this forum, family and friends.

It’s way more expensive to institutionalize many people than to keep them in the community, so I’m guessing we’re not going back to that.

I think that here in the state’s they should open up long term beds again like the old institutions ,we have so many people in our jails that are mentally ill and it’s sad that where putting these people behind bar’s when they really need to be in a care facility.

Same issue here. But some claim that forensic wards are worse than being in prison.

I have experience with none, so I don’t know.

I do know that when you’re in prison you know when you’ll get out and that forensic psychiatric institutions are notoriously hard to get out of in Belgium.

Yeah here in my area it’s hard to see a psychiatrist you have to be at the absolute breaking point to see one it’s stupid that’s why a lot of people end up in jail or forensic units in other areas

Without getting too political, Trump says that he’d like to revisit the idea of re opening hundreds of mental institutions in the US

That has potential to be a good idea but I don’t think he has good intentions sadly there needs to be better mental health care but what he is thinking is ableist

Its like some of us are stuck at home mostly because we’re too sick to do normal things like work. Its good for moral to keep busy though and not let yourself get too bored. Hospitals now they are boring tedious places especially with the arrogant workers who look down their noses at you. Nah community is better :relieved:

No. I have many more fun things to do than I have free time to do them in.
