Im kind of frustrated and a hair angry

My dexcom just gave me a reading of 54 so I jacked up my blood sugar. I was beginning to suspect it wasnt right so I ran up and bought some strips to take my blood sugar through the fingerprick.

When I tested, my dexcom said 160 some and my fingerprick said 283. The damn dexcom is off by 120 points!!!

I dont know who I have to be angry at really, but I am slightly mad. I mean , Ive been jacking my blood sugar up for over a week, thinking I could go into a coma because my blood sugar is low and the damn thing is off by over 100 points!!!

I tried to call the company but they arent open until Monday. Maybe I need a new reader? IDK. I am slightly pissed, even though Im not sure who to be mad at.

Arggggghhhhh

And its not the sensors either. I have tried many sensors and they keep saying the same thing. BS low. It has to be the reader.

Or I guess its possible they read at different times. I know the dexcom uses a method or than direct blood to test. Maybe there is a delay in its readings?

IDK. All I know is that I dont trust it anymore.

I dont know how accurate my diabetes blood glucose meter is?

I worry about this too

I hear ya. 120 points could be the difference between life and death. I mean, seriously.

I would trust the fingerprick over these continuous glucose monitors.

Yeah I would then suggest that you use the blood glucose meters (finger pricks)
Have a talk with your doctor

Where are you putting your sensors on your body? You need to find a muscular not fatty site. This affects the readings.

the back of my arm. I think thats where they said you are supposed to put them.

Yes there are certain places on the back of the arm that aren’t very muscular. You want to get it in the muscles. I put mine high on the arm and more in front. Also you can recalibrate your sensor. You can try that. If your blood sugar is in the 50s but you feel fine, it defo means your sensor is inaccurate and needs checked. Unfortunately the only fix is to move it to a different part. My doctor said that scar tissue builds up super fast in the arms. So if you are inserting in a site you frequently use you need to move it as scar tissue prevents accurate readings as well.

Also, don’t inject your insulin around it.

Thanks @sweetpotatocasserole for all the info. The insulin thing wont be an issue because I inject in my stomach.

When I used to have diabetes, I was told they’re never as accurate as finger pricks. It was in a class at my local hospital about diabetes.

I don’t know anything about this, but there is good advice from others. My hubby is diabetic, but he only has a finger prick monitor and has never had to take insulin. I hope you don’t mind me gleaning information from the threads you’ve been posting, @Bowens.
