I just want to be understood

I’ve fought schizophrenia on my own for a little over a year now and it finally tore my family apart and I just want people to understand what is have why things happened and that I can live a normal life it’s hard explaining things to people cause you know no matter what they won’t be able to fully understand the control the voices had over me and I just feel lost at times I want my family back

I’d say most people don’t. I thought I did, and then psychosis happened. Turned out I didn’t know sht.

Welcome to forum…

What you wrote is so true, my story is I was avoiding hospitals for three years not talking to anyone how voices drive me to not speak, eat and sleep…
I was 24 then, now I’m 48 and no one yet wanted explaination…

Welcome :hugs:- it’s hard for people to put themselves in other people’s shoes so I believe empathy has its limitations.

Welcome to the forum! We’re you married before? What family did you lose?

Glad you found us

A few tips on things that confuse newbies:

Cake day is the anniversary date of when you joined.

The 1515 or other numbers at the end of peoples posts are because there’s a 15 character minimum to post. So people put 15s after until they get to the minimum characters to post.

To tag someone, put the @ followed by the name.

Me before marriage:

“I just want someone to understand me!”

Me after marriage:

“Bloody hell, how does she know what I’m thinking before I do?!?”

I agree with @fractaled and @TheFountainPen I feel the same way. In my ignorance, before I developed schizophrenia, I thought schizos were all crazy people. Do your best to try and help your family understand, and try to find a sympathetic doctor, but when it comes to society at large, getting them to understand is a lost cause.

The good news is that you’ve found a spot where everyone understands. We’ve all had our own individual experiences, some of us have had similar experiences, some experiences are different, but we all understand mental illness like no one else does.
