though on a serious note i think jazz sounds better to people who know how to make music and who understand music theory. us non musicians can’t understand the majesty of improvisation and melodic innovation as well, we just can’t appreciate it.
I like some specific type of Jazz music which has soft tone of saxophone in it and good mix of gitar and piano tunes. I don’t like Miles Devis or John Contrane, but I like the jazz by Dave Brubeck, Coleman Hawkins and John Contrane’s son Ravi Contrane.
What I like about jazz is that it calms me down, there are often no lyrics to trigger anything, and even when there are lyrics they usually don’t bother me.
I love jazz. It’s mental and emotional stimulation for me. I always thought Roy Hargrove would be a good hook for someone who isn’t into jazz to start to appreciate the more complex bebop and hardbop forms of jazz.
But Chuck Mangione (which is pop jazz) is still my all time favourite musician, I wish more people were into him:
