It’s a lazy idea in a way. I didn’t have enough of a fighting spirit. Maybe I would have majored in physics if a professor hadn’t teased me about being female.
What did the professor say to you?
“We need to knock her off her A-like pedestal.” He said it to the class which was mostly boys. I got highest in the first exam.

Idk what his intentions were when your Prof said that, hopefully he was just being lighthearted!
But yea a nice encouragement for good marks would have been nicer
Unfortunately that was all too common.
Kind of an odd thing to say about a student. I would be a bit pissed off personally
