I asked my little nieces what music they listen to 🎵

I listen to a lot of music, so I thought I’d be the cool uncle who recognised their music.

Nope!

They had a Spotify playlist filled with artists I’d never heard of. I’ve no idea how they found the music, maybe through the Spotify recommendation algorithms.

But the days of kids listening to the radio or watching some MTV like tv channel are over.

I felt like a dinosaur :sauropod: lol

How old are they?

And more importantly, did you sing along ?:grinning:

The eldest is 12, so I knew she’d be into music by now.

It’s possible it’s similar to tv nowadays. There just are so many options and so many celebrities, there are constantly people and shows you never heard of.

It’s not like when were were kids and there were a few dozen options of sources of celebrities and shows emerge from. Nowadays their are zillions of streaming services with 55 trillion different shows, and a bazillion so called “celebrities”. It’s impossible to keep track of them all.

I dont listen to much new music really, but I’m betting there are a myriad of options there as well.

In my days it would be common to get a CD as a gift.

What would you do now? Give them a Spotify gift card?

My nephew is 22 years old and he listens to rap and hip hop mainly.
My brother is slowly introducing him to classic rock and he’s accepting it

I bet I have heard of them.

Being a celebrity , whether musician or actor or whatever is watered down these days IMO.

You can even become a internet celebrity these days.

tape is common usage here in the UK for record. Like hover being a brand, Hover here is a name for any vacuum cleaner.

Sure, I will become and internet celebrity and just play the one song that I still remember by heart on guitar over and over. It’s sure to be a hit :stuck_out_tongue: .

I remember when MTV had music videos.

Those were the days. I used to eagerly wait for metal videos during midnight. There were few channels like MTV, VTV, VH1. Shows were very late night for metal music. It is a rarity and would headbang along with friends to the music. Such delight. Now everything available at fingertips and not so interesting to watch it or listen to it.

Here in the UK unless you had cable - prier to 1997 you only had 4 mainstream TV channels.
