I always think I know better than the the consultant

Maybe thats a refusal to accept what’s wrong with me. I know that. But I also feel I don’t have sz… one of the docs agreed with me… it’s hard to know who to believe what they all give different answers. I went private. 3 times! all three of them told me three different things. Psychiatry is subjective wouldn’t you agree?

I probably have half the mental health condition in the dx book I don’t need them to dx me on that, including narcissm. OK maybe not, but u know, traits.

I personally don’t care about these dx labels.

You’ve only been diagnosed by doctors three times? I thought it was a bunch of times?

That’s fair Zoe … But i just wish I knew so mabe if I did I could have a chance to go off these meds at some point depending on the answer

I said I went private 3 times. Multiple times on the NHS.

Oh OK, sorry. This may be too personal but can you remember each different doctors diagnosis that you’ve seen?

Not in any particular order but I’ve had sz , bipolar , sza , possible bpd , (autism , ADHD at least those two are confirmed )

I was going to say to go with what the majority of them said and that would be your diagnosis but it sounds like you get a different diagnosis from each one. Have you tried explaining to the last doctors you’ve seen that you are confused about your diagnosis because you get a different diagnosis from every doctor? Maybe if they knew you were getting different answers from everybody the last doctors would take the time to make absolutely sure they are diagnosing you correctly.

I’ve asked for an appointment with a consultant I saw last two weeks. Hopefully he still works there. So I can get this resolved once and for all.

Isn’t Bipolar and Bpd the same thing? Well, I would make sure and tell him you’ve been diagnosed with a few different things by different doctors so you don’t know which diagnosis to believe. Tell him you’ve gone years without knowing your correct diagnosis for sure and you want to settle it once and for all.

Honestly I have 2 primary diagnoses,
SZA and Bipolar
I keep getting diagnosed with these two disorders by different doctors and they are always confused as to the correct diagnosis.
It goes back and forth between each dx
My current psychiatrist diagnosed me with SZA bipolar type at our initial evaluation visit.
I’m frustrated because it took her like 5 minutes to come up with this diagnosis.

My psychosis comes in waves or episodes, only when I’m manic or having a mixed episode
This squarely places me in the bipolar camp.

These diagnoses labels given to us by the doctors are mainly for insurance purposes.

They don’t mean much in the bigger picture.

I just tell most people that I have bipolar disorder because it’s easier for them to understand.

You should just stick with a diagnosis that you feel you identify with most

It’s much easier this way.

Bpd is borderline personality disorder

See my shrink - once every 8 months? Most of my communication is done via the nurse. Always an indian with a thick accent i cant understand anyway, which is annoying. They bugger off after a few months - and your met with another one. Bit of a joke really.

Nah mate completely different. BPD is seen as more as a psychological disorder, as opposed to having psychosis. Tho you can have elements of both.

Got labelled BPD 30 years ago - and i stilll think in my case , its a load of crap.

That’s my experience. I rarely see the same doc twice … But I also see a different nurse everytime. It’s ridiculous. They don’t want to stay.

@wave I don’t think my moods are expressed outwardly hence why I feel bpd fits so well. I have erratic moods sometimes but it’s more internal and I’m the only one who can tell.

Fear of being abandoned is a big part of bpd
My ex wife has borderline and honestly she was very hard to deal with.
Not all people with borderline are abusive but she was

I’m no doctor but if moods aren’t a big issue with you and you can experience psychosis then you could very well suffer with schizophrenia

Not schizoaffective disorder or bipolar but plain old schizophrenia

Im too poor to ever go private, but my friend who is a psychologist is really critical of private psychologists/consultants and says from her experience they willingly hand out diagnosis far too willingly. She works as an autism assessor for adults and often people who “want” a diagnosis - who she and her team decide don’t meet the criteria - will often go private to get it and succeed.

I also had a friend’s girlfriend who was from a wealthy family and seemed to have major anxiety. She went to quite a few different doctors and they each gave her different diagnosises which was obviously not very helpful to a patient who just wants to get on with their life.

I think I do have fear of abandonment but I’m not outwardly aggressive. I think I have the quiet bpd type. Where the aggression is turned inwards. Being critical of myself , always blaming myself for things even though they might have little to do with me, low self confidence etc the doc suggested it but I dismissed it cos I thought bpd people are aggressive outwardly but I was wrong.
