I shared a poem on here that I wrote in the hospital and I was grateful and kind of blown away that you guys liked it. I want to write more poetry but I feel almost no inspiration. Tips welcome for that battle.
Not sure this helps, but I sometimes like making parody lyrics for songs… I made a variation of Happy Birthday for my girlfriend and she really liked it and made some parody versions of friends’ songs which turned out well too. It helps me to have a template of sorts for meter and structure instead of working everything from scratch.
I am not good at free form poetry though… my brother studied under a famous poet and got pretty good at it but I kind of prefer more rustic writing.
Have U always written poems ?
U could revisit what U wrote before and edit/add to it.
I have years of poetry on my Google Drive, everytime I feel like writing I look back onto it and it inspires me to write more.
I paint and draw, but I get inspired by music, and pretty much everything I see and experience. I get images on my head and just try to work with them.
But revisiting your own old stuff is very good. I often find old sketches I hated at the moment I was drawing them, but after some years I find potential in them and I want to work with them. Also surrounding yourself with stuff you are excited about, that works. At least for me.
