I had psychosis for 3 years untreated. However I have relapses twice since then. Once because I was triggered because of terrible neighbours and once because I came off medications and those times lasted a few weeks because I was treated.
My doctor says for life. But other doctors say otherwise.
Itâs not unheard of.
Acute onset predicts better response to meds and better recovery. Short duration of untreated psychosis predicts quick response to meds and better recovery. 10 days is not unusually quick when he has not had an attenuated onset and/or long duration of untreated psychosis. Even a good response within a week is common.
No family history is also associated with a good prognosis, but no involvement of drugs and no clear precipitating cause are associated with a bad prognosis. Itâs almost always mixed, but your brother has many of the good ones. I donât see any reason to doubt his diagnosis based on this.
I think the recommendations differ across the globe, but where I live, it is recommended to stay on them for 2 years after recovery from first-episode psychosis and 5 years after each attempt thereafter or when youâve had multiple episodes. However, most people with schizophrenia will need them for life.
Usually they let people out of the hospital 30 days later. My last two hospital visits were 2 days long cause i take meds and it wasnt really a psychosis.
Or maybe it was but im just so used to being a szphrenicâŚand when i loose myself and end up in the hospital i recover really fast by observing the nurses and coping themâŚmeaning that if i see they are not illâŚi want to be not ill also âŚ
