Users are suspended when they violate forum guidelines. If a user has a history of repeatedly violating forum guidelines, to discourage this behaviour, the Mod Team may double the length of each subsequent suspension. Consequently, suspension lengths can get quite long if a user continues to violate forum guidelines repeatedly.
