This is so classically schizophrenic – a very, very common symptom of schizophrenia – that pigs could fly before I would believe that he, a real person, had the power to read thoughts. Please read these forums. There are loads of people claiming that others, people they pass in the street, checkout operators, people on TV, can read their thoughts.

Yes but no one on this site has had coincidences exactly like mine nor has had voices as smart as mine. This coincidence isn’t something as trivial as seeing the same color car everywhere, it’s more real.

If you met him “closer to his house” does that mean fairly close to his house? How close? If pretty close then the only thing you need to explain is why he is getting up (from your point of view) so early, or (from my point of view) late. In other words, there is nothing for you or your readers to rationalise. If you meet someone near their house at a normal time for them to be up in the morning, then no rationalisation is necessary.

I met him on the outskirts of the town. Someplace that I usually did meet him at the start of all this and somewhere he made a point of always meeting me. That’s also how I knew it was him because it was the usual place he would show up. In work he would always be tired when he came in at nine, that’s also how I know he wasn’t an early bird.It wasn’t close to his house, or on the way it was out of his way to be there, he lives 20mins away

How could your IRA ex-colleague know that you were leaving your house early in the morning and drive 45 minutes to intimidate you, unless he could see out of your eyes?

First of all anything (geostationary satellite surveillance, leprechauns, and unicorns) is more plausible than the ability of a real other person having the ability to see out of your eyes. I suggest coincidence as being the most plausible rationalization.

A more pertinent question I think however is 'Why do you think that he can see out of your eyes?"

My rationalization is pretty trippy, and I would not want to trigger, so please read on with caution.

Question about ego

I have been interested in the super-ego since I flipped out briefly a long time ago. There are quite few theories. But before I start, the theories that I have read most recently suggest that in order for there to be a super-ego, we must be unaware of it. I guess that stands to reason. If there is someone else in here with me, then they or I must be a sort of role play type thing. And when you realise you are playing something, then the game or role ends, maybe. So maybe the super-ego is best not studied. I have anyway. Philippe Rochat “Others in Mind” – this is the most recent and I would say advanced. He claims that infants create a super-ego type ego first and then later become aware of…

I think that someone else is looking out of my eyes, but not a real physical person. It seems to me I share my mind with another alter ego, variously called, the “over I”, “impartial spectator,” “invisible hand,” “generalized other,” “Other,” and “super-addressee”. In order to keep this part of mind hidden it is necessary that it be endowed with scary qualities, and the feeling that another real person (such as your IRA ex-colleague) can see out of your eyes is one of the last (voices being the last), ways of keeping the other, necessary for the function of self, hidden – as suggested by Phillip Rochat in his book “Others in Mind.”

In other words, schizophrenia too may be interpreted using cost-benefit analysis. Believing that you are being victimized by a member of the IRA is bad, but it may be better (have more benefits than costs) than realizing what Adam Smith, Freud, Rochat etc theorize is looking out of our eyes.

Perhaps you can make friends with your ex-colleague.

By the way, my paranoia is subsiding a little but, I am generally too scared to mention it here. I have even considered the possibility that you, Italy2020, may be the person that I fear is out to get me! Have you considered the possibility that I may be your IRA colleague?! I am not, I assure you, but so might he.
