Have mood stabilizers helped you with avolition or anhedonia?

I suffer from anhedonia and avolition, and I was wondering if anyone has experienced any relief of these symptoms due to mood stabilizers. I’m speaking of medications like Depakote, Lamictal, Topomax, and lithium. Have they helped alleviate your anhedonia or avolition?

Thanks!

I was on Depakote ER for years, and Tegretol. These are 2 powerful anticonvulsant/anti manic medications.
Since I was at the higher dose range of both meds - they seemed to worsen my negative symptoms a bit.
I am currently at a low dose of Lamictal, and because it has antidepressant properties, it doesnt seem to be worsening Negative symptoms. I currently am suffering from low motivation, but do not place blame on my mood stabilizer - Lamictal

I think that your post is very interesting to me because I suffer avolition too; I am finding out how I can face this symptom.
I think you should check out next link, which share us firemonkey: Dysthymia and Apathy: Diagnosis and Treatment
In this site, you can find information about antidepressants, mood stabilizers, etc.
Tolteca.

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, I’m afraid mood stabilizers will just worsen my negative symptoms too. I’m just hoping there are cases where they help.

Good to know your experience!

I’ll check that out!

I took lamictal but it didn’t help me at all. Nothing helped my avolition and anhedonia, it persisted with all my meds.

No. That’s all of an answer I have. Enough characters???

The only thing that has had a substantial effect on my avolition has been Bupropion. Fluphenazine and Sarcosine helped but only a tiny bit.
