Does it have a bad effect to have a glass or two of scotch once in a while. Say once every two months? There is this friend and I feel there has to be something on the table. Does it get one psychotic?
I don’t drink often but I’ve never had a problem drinking while on meds. They say there’s a higher risk of side effects if you drink and some meds are very sedating so the combination might make you tired. I wouldn’t drink if taking benzos though, don’t mess with that. In any case, two drinks probably won’t hurt at all.
I think it depends on the individual. I’ve heard people say that it’s not good to drink while on medication. I don’t suggest to anybody to drink. Most schizophrenics either figure out themselves if drinking is bad for them or someone tells them or their doctor tells them if it’s OK to drink or not and how much. Back when I was 22 or 23 (I’m 53 now) I could sit on my front porch with my neighbor and drink a couple of beers with no ill effects. Or have a couple beers at a bar or club. I could get drunk if I wanted to back then. But I got addicted to crack when I was 26 so I’m actually a horrible example when it comes to drinking or drugs.
some people …yes
others…no
everything in moderation.
take care
I’m in the “don’t even think about drinking” category.
My drinking days are over.
I dont drink a drop of alcohol - not that I ever was an alcoholic, but my drinking days are over - medications and alcohol do not mix well - especially with downer type meds like benzodiazepines
I am on seroquel and invega is there common side effects with those and liquor?
Alcohol itself isn’t a psycho active it merely thins the blood by diluting it with ethanol. They say this decreases the efficacy of the medication as it is distributed through the blood stream. But will it directly counteract your meds or give you hallucinations? No alcohol is not known to do those things. However in relaxing through alcohol you may end up reducing your cognitive defenses and become more open to the spectrum of sz thought.
you put the lime in the coconut then you shake it up!
Seroquel is a very sedating medication - some people call it a super benzo - I would be very careful when drinking even small amounts of alcohol with Seroquel - I dont want to put fear into your heart, but that combo could cause labored breathing, depending on how much you drank. If you feel like you need to drink, you can always buy non alcoholic beer - In my opinion drinking is just not worth it
I felt red wine can do. Every weekend I might have a tiny bit white wine
