GeneSight - Finding the right medicine just got easier

GeneSight is a genetic test that helps healthcare providers take a personalized approach to prescribing medicine for patients. Because genes influence the way a person’s body responds to specific medications, they may not work the same for everyone. Using DNA gathered with a simple cheek swab, GeneSight analyzes a patient’s genes and provides individualized information to help healthcare providers select medications that better match their patient’s genes. Multiple clinical studies have shown that when clinicians used GeneSight to help guide treatment decisions, patients were twice as likely to respond to the selected medication.

Is this really useful??i am desperate anyway

It sounds like it could be useful.

It seems more geared towards depression however I know that I have seen reference to this before for schizophrenia. Click on the patient like and ask your pdoc about it.

I’ve heard of this from this site too… I think it could be very helpful.

It might be easier to stay med compliant if the right combo is found the first time with a few small tweaks here and there…

Imagine not having to take meds that end up not working.

If people found the right med combo sooner… we might get back to level and heal sooner.

I’m really hopeful for this.

The other night in clinical we talked about how metabolism affects how effective a drug is. So these genetic tests (and they do talk about SZ in their website) test how your metabolic enzymes work to breakdown the drug. They have a list of drugs on the website that they test for and their are many antipsychotics on it.
