What do you reckon? I reckon they’ll have genetically higher tolerance for anxiety and depression. Somehow.
I disagree because anxiety and depression are on the increase and there are many reasons like internet causing it, workplace more and more stressful, financial strain etc theres loads of reasons and these are unlikely to become less of in decades to come. Theres nothing wrong with someones biology for becoming anxious /depressed, its mostly environment triggers and a leaning genetically as far as i know
I think it’s because of better parenting. People are more aware of the results of parental behavior. Can’t think of the right word.
Yeah I agree, I reckon the parenting could have a genetic effect. A subtle one that will help raise their adaptation to tech usage
Oh your a genetic expert??
No? 15 characters
@DNAsaur what’s your opinion, this kinda relates quite a lot with your studies right
I was thinking particularly from an epigenetic stand point - ChatGPT was saying this is plausible but would need A LOT of reinforcement
I think that with climate change progressing there are bound to be upheaveals which will threaten survival, anytime survival is threatened the fight or flight fear hormones kick in.
So no, i don’t think it will get better.
Also there’s a book I’ve read about how bad nutrition makes mental problems much worse and since the 50s our vegetables and fruit have decreased in nutrients due to modern farming practises.
Nutrient defiency can worsen mental health problems and with food shortages likely to happen because of climate change, well lets just say, it wont be pretty..
I hadn’t thought of the climate change perspective; that’s an interesting way to look at it
@DNAsaur Genetic engineering is on the up though, so there’s some positive (ethics aside) for healthier crops
Thats true, there are ways with GE to increase yield and reduce pesticide use. Everyone in the town I’m in is anti GE. But it does have some benefits…
I see, I reckon it’ll be quite a success. To me, in a way, just picking fruits/veg is a form of engineering - in a basic way - because you aim for the most ripe ones to reproduce in the fields.
Climate change is a natural occurance for planet Earth
Messing with Genetics isnt natural
@DNAsaur @anon54334749
I don’t know, I see it differently. Natural selection (the idea we chose what characteristics we breed for, be in consciously or not) is like a form of genetic engineering, just on a macro scale instead of with precision tools, so for me - it’s all the same in essence.
Well im no expert i can get the jist of something
But theres no decine in bad parenting, no decine in genetic diseases or any disease?
Everybody is susceptable to diseases some caused genetically others environment you live in
Im sure if there was a cure for cancer or schizophrenia theyd be on it like a ton of bricks because its costing the taxpayers billions!
I’m ngl, I don’t really follow what you’re saying but I agree that Schizophrenia needs better treatment
Climate change is not natural. Most of the fruit and vege varieties from the supermarket are genetically modified varieties
EDIT: As much as the climate does fluctuate, mass species extinctions often occur with them and the evidence shows, this time it’s caused by us.
Viruses edit genes all the time.
