What’s your favorite paint to paint with?
I like acrylic the most, compared to water color. I am horrible with water color paints…
I’ve honestly never tried oil though… I might fiddle around with it tonight.

I paint miniatures. That requires acrylic. So that’s what I paint with. I enjoy it. Always thin your paints.
Ipad pencil. 。°。°。°。°。°
When I painted after my depressive break in 1993 I used oils. I did some really good works which family and friends still have and have kept. I like oils. It’s a bit different but I’m with @Fanny_Longbottom nowadays…I paint my miniatures with acrylic. Buildings too.
I’ve just been experimenting with acrylics. I usually use oil. They say for beginners to use acrylics. And watercolour is one of the hardest mediums to use. As you can easily go wrong and its hard to fix the mistakes. But i guess like with anything theres only one way to learn and thats just by trial and error. Failure is part of the process. And over time you should figure out your likes and interests. With acrylics you can be experimental with mixed media like collage techniques which can be fun if you like free expression and dont mind when things get messy. Theres loads of youtube channels if you get stuck choosing what you want to play with. Maybe by watching others you will see what process youd like to try better. With oil you need to get certain processes in order - fat over lean. So thin layers of oil paint first and thicker layers are last to go on. As this prevents cracking. You need a bottle of white spirit and maybe 1 part over 6 of linseed oil to add to do background washes for example or just to thin your paint. Gamblin has a introductory set of oils which are student grade oil paints. And acrylic I think you can play with any kind and youll get good results. Thin your paint with water. And can create transparent layers just by adding water. Ive been using a liquitex set of acrylics. As they have higher pigmentation. Good luck choosing. Theres loads you can do with any paint medium.
Sorry if i misinterpreted the post. You probably know this stuff anyway.
I like to paint digitally. And it’s the same process as painting on a canvas. You have to draw big shapes first and then go to the details. What is good for digital is that you can pick the colours from the images instantaneously. But you never learn colours.
I would love to try oil paint and acrylics. I already tried watercolors when I was younger. I didn’t like it because the paper I used was printer paper so the paint would create a lot of bumps
What happened to @mae ? I know she liked painting and posted her work on here.
Funny enough, I have also never tried oil paint. You’ve got to be much more careful with them. Well their solvents anyway.
My favorite is gouache. You can thin it out with water and it will behave similarly to watercolor. Or you can apply it thickly and it will be similar to acrylics. And it’s water soluble, so it’s easy to clean up. Plus it dries matte, which personally I prefer to the shine of most other paints. The only thing you can’t really do with it is texture. If the paint sits in a heap of your canvas then it will crack as it dries. Luckily I don’t paint with texture.
I recommend trying it if you like acrylics. You can get a palette off Amazon for cheap. I have the Himi brand from Amazon and it’s lovely. And they give you a lot of paint. It’s a good starter. Though I prefer tubes of paint, since they’re less likely to dry out too quickly.
That must’ve been rough. Watercolors are also super expensive as is watercolor paper. I bought a watercolor block last month for $57. Ouch!
Digital art is also great because you can zoom in to create small details easily. That’s one thing I really wish I could do with traditional art haha.
I really didn’t know any of that stuff so thank you I just assumed the paints I had were already thinned… oops…
@LittleMissSlothy is an amazing artist.
I haven’t seen her around in a while.
I don’t know what she uses.
I think she uses watercolour. Shes extremely talented just doesnt realise it I think.
I used to paint with Acrylic
I have a miniature set to paint sometime but I have used oils in the past.
Now I feel inspired to paint later on today.
