Did you know that Japanese ppl borrowed some Chinese characters for their writing system? They have 3 character types katakana , hiragana , and kanji. I took Japanese in college they didn’t have a Chinese class or I would have taken that too.

Historically, migrants from China who settled onto the Japanese islands brought with them their knowledge of Chinese characters. Katakana & Hiragana were derived from Chinese characters while Kanji are Chinese characters. Pronunciation is different but the idea of the logo-graphic is the same.
