Yes it will…because I’m a writer and I constantly look up synonyms on Google to make my poems more intricate…but I notice older people have much better vocabulary. For example @Moonbeam just used the word "vicariously " and I only learned that word in December…to you older folks…does your vocabulary naturally improve as time goes on or is it the culture of your generation to have more vocabulary??? I’m sure my vocabulary will improve like I didn’t know what eclectic meant til I found it in a rhyming dictionary back in 2011…but now it’s my favorite word. I really hope to improve my vocabulary a lot…sometimes I think the cognitive deficits from the illness prevents me from grasping onto certain words but I know it’ll improve somewhat. I used the word capacious in one of my poems and I barely know what that means but I knew it fit properly because I looked it up. Discuss vocabulary
Read old books…I read lots of older books and their filled with awesome words…
I’m an avid reader so I think that’s mainly where I learn new vocabulary. Nowadays, it’s so easy to quickly google a term I’m unfamiliar with that I feel my vocabulary is expanding much faster these days.
In the olden days we had to go find a dictionary which took some effort and often I didn’t bother. In the olden days we also walked 5 miles to school uphill both ways in 3 foot deep snow.
It also improves with reading and conversation. And writing. You will find it improves greatly when you go to uni.
I have to write really complex letters in my job and I have to reference really complex legislation but we have to write as though our audience has an eighth grade education.
So where I would like to use better vocabulary, I have to sort of dumb it down. But that in itself is an art I think.
Sometimes I don’t, sometimes I go with my first instinct and use better words, especially if I’m writing to doctors. And I do that a lot.
The more you write, the better it will get.
Ya Alan watts taught me a lot of words. I think I’ll read books and highlight all the words I don’t know and then look them up. Also write a poem
Say I start it off
Jon went to the store
Then write 31 more lines made out of words that rhyme with store. And continue doing that with very rhymeable words.
Then memorize the poem to build up the vocabulary in your mind.
I thinke you spel just fyne.
I have a joyous paranoia
Swaying immensely like sequoias
Euphoria, gives me an anarchistic delight
A chauvinistic way to excite
My stanzas
Making forays on the Adam lanzas of the era
But I’m friggin hysterical
Local vigilante living next to granny in the shanties
Let me show you what I reveal
Each and every time I come up with a new idea
Cuz the current culture isn’t viable and that’s undeniable because we’re on trial for eternal lack of style
Picture my pitch perfect prose
The way it arose from dusty shadows
I’m the master of evanescence
Like Machiavelli I leave that impression
Gonna start a new depression with the way you teach these lessons
My poems intricately written
Simply Not bitten
Of no ones swagger

I’m reading this right now…though I have been beaten hated hurt abused left for dead I don’t hold onto these concepts as hate only perpetuates hate…so only through letting go of the negative can you stop the hatred…my paraphrased version of the ancient laws…and that’s just the first part of the first chapter its wonderful and free I think you will like it…
That’s awesome!!!
Got all that @turningthepage? There will be a quiz.
I don’t think its so much a generation but rather an individual strength one may have… My brother always had a depth of vocabulary I was impressed with and my other brother has quick solutions to problems presented…
However, I believe one can become a master with applying themselves over any other factor @turningthepage
I made it half way…I can’t focus long enough to read this much…not that it wasn’t interesting just dam that’s alot…
Ha I read all that…win…
My vocabulary is atrophying, I have alogia which means my 11 year old brother is a more competent conversationalist than I am. I can already feel the words slipping away…
3 days of your life you’re never getting back. Sucker.
When I was at med school I learnt a whole new vocabulary. Only really applies to medical stuff though.
