Do they medicate you straight away in USA psych hospitals?

I’m told how in usa psych hospitals keep you only for a week or two. When I’ve been in hospital they will leave me without trying to medicate me for up to a week just to observe me. One nurse told me that they do get people coming in the hospital without the illness trying to get a diagnosis.

Here in the good old USA they start to medicate you the same day that you arrive or the following day.

In other words right away.

In 1992 I had cardiac arrest when I was going to school 400 miles from home. I repeated some of my delusional thoughts that I had a triplet sister who was a woman who really wasn’t one because I heard her voice in the walls and hallways. I didn’t know those voices were in my head yet and would probably had not known what to way if I talked to the psychologist who dropped by to “tell her everything”. When i gave inaccurate insurance information and felt better the next morning they released me and sent a bill to my dorm mailbox. They gave me a prescription to proponol and had a nutritionist tell me to watch my salt intake. After I flunked out of school I went to the emergency room for heart palpitations and was asked if I was using cocaine. But they were contacted from the other state months earlier and they noticed me hallucinating and asked if I had voices in my head. So they put me on mellarill. They released me hours later and I was on my own with no follow up doctor’s visit. After losing two jobs in 2 months I was finally taken to a psychiatrist and did doctor’s visits for at least a decade before going to a drug tdetox center for detox off of a med with bad side effects. They didn’t give me any meds there for 2 days. After a week of trying to get rid of my symptoms with various drugs I was released. I ddin’t go to an actual Psych hospital until 22 years after my illness began and received drugs after one day there.

Yes, they medicate you right away in the US, saves time. I’ve received meds such as Ativan and Haldol before even being admitted, while still in the ER.

The times I was hospitalized I’d be put into “triage” or “observation” first, where they spent something like 48 hours “watching” me to see how I was.
Once, I brought the remaining antipsychotics i had with me to the crisis unit and they refused to give them to me! They said I was being observed and they didn’t want drugs to interfere. Well, I described my gruesome hallucinations and finally the tech relented and gave me a pill.
As soon as I was in the official, 5250 hold where you’re likely long term, they put me on drugs asap…but that was after the initial intake period where i just suffered without meds so they could prove i was indeed psychotic.

The last time I was in a hospital they put me on suicide watch for a few hours where I had vivid hallucinations. Once they pulled me off of suicide watch and assigned me a bed I got a shot of Haldol and a shot of Antivan.

If the doctors think you are in psychosis at the ER, then they are allowed to forcefully give you an injection with Haldol and Ativan in it.
Even if you don’t want it.
They will cut a hole in your pants with scissors and inject you in your thigh…that’s my experience.
