DIY CRISPR is not a great idea. Its good because it keeps this technology out of the hands of the regulators but it might go horribly wrong if it doesnt stay in the hands of expert scientists.
I don’t know how much luck they will have preventing people from experimenting on themselves. (Actually a time honored tradition in science.)
The tech is not expensive. You do have to be fairly smart and educated, the average person wouldn’t get too far with it.
But probably a much bigger concern in the next 10 years is bioterrorism, not people using CRISPR to make glow in the dark beer, get bigger muscles, or treat their own cancer.
