I’m one who never goes, the joke of the party… get asked what im doing with my life all the time… I like to avoid that kind of atmosphere.
all my cousins know about my schizophrenia and their parents have witnessed it first hand so they just treat me as a disabled person
It’s much easier if people know ! Otherwise it’s just about hiding
I am close with a few of my cousins. One asked me just a couple days ago to stand in her wedding as a bridesmaid. I’m honored and happy to participate. Though I do not look forward to another $400 bridesmaid dress that will never be worn again. Every wedding I try to talk everyone into a “destroy the dress” photo shoot and no one goes for it because the dresses are so pretty. We have a huge family and they all know they’ve never worn the dresses again either. I plan on making a power point presenting the statistics. Considering the cousin getting married, it may actually happen. Good luck with your cousin event. Family can be a challenge.
same for me at least for the ones i am close too. the others i never see. so i dont ever get asked about a job or what im doing from my family
Most of my family knows that I have mental illness, I think
But with the exception of a few family members, they don’t know the details
I thought that after my mom died, someone will at least call me to ask how I am…
But,they just stopped carreing over me and not just that…
My cousin called me after few years after, and asked me where are records (vinyl) that I returned him month after I borrowed 30 years ago…
I think he still believes that I kept them.
No meetings have been organised in this 15 years …
I don’t have any contact with my cousins. Anyway, they all live in the Lower 48 states and don’t try to call or visit, they’re living their own lives, it’s all good…
I haven’t had contact with extended family for thirty years when my mom used to take me over her/my cousins house. The cousin was pretty cool about the whole mental illness thing. Before that I would have to go back to 1984 when me and my mom visited my grandmother. Wasn’t much of a visit.
