I don’t think the above solution works. But I think I figured it out. But I have to explain it because I can’t draw now on my phone.
Take the string and collect it to a “thread”, then pull that thread without twisting it in any way over a nail and down, so it hangs over it, and fasten it in the loop at the end with a nail below that first nail.
Might be wrong though I only visualized it.
Actually I think it does work. Maybe? I don’t know.
Edit: Nah it doesn’t sorry.
I would throw it away and not give it a second thought.
Problem solved.
They didn’t post the solution yet? (Edit: Oh right it’s 4 PM in the UK)
Anyway I drew it up and realized I needed one slight twist to my solution (literally) but I think it should work?
The red dots are the nails.
The answer’s usually given 5 pm UK time.
These puzzles are pretty hard, I think this is the first time I actually (hopefully) solved one. But they’re very fun. Thanks for posting them.
Okay made another try… If I may please…
Hey @anon9798425 the results are out.
Oh cool! I thought about something like the first one but not quite like it. And the second solution is the same as mine but with the bottom nail placed to the side, and with the string crossing itself earlier. Neither of which really change anything. So I got it right.
I tried to go outside the box/frame. By the way good one @anon9798425
I thought of a few solutions that were different, like with the nails in different angles and lengths and with knots and by using the friction of looping the thread repeatedly around the nails to hold the picture. But I assumed they wanted a simpler solution.
Yours would probably work too. Or a slightly different variation of it.
@anon9798425 Very well done.
Dang you guys are genius’s . I don’t even know what’s going on haha
I struggle to answer them too, but post on the basis that some might enjoy the intellectual challenge.
