Six months ago, Calgary carpenter Lee Dubois didn’t even know what a TARDIS was.
Familiar to even casual fans of the long-running science fiction program Doctor Who, the blue police-box that serves as the good doctor’s conveyance through time and space is up for grabs to one lucky Calgarian — all to benefit Kids Help Phone.
Dubois was inspired to build the scale replica of the TARDIS, known to fans as ‘Time and Relative Dimension in Space,’ after noticing the popularity of TARDIS bird feeders sold through his garden supply business.
“When I got the bird feeders in, I didn’t know what I got,” he laughed, explaining he couldn’t keep the bird feeders in stock.
“Somebody said I should build one of those, full-sized – and I said ‘yeah, I should!’”
