CRYING accompanies us from the day we are born. One expert explains that as babies, crying became our “acoustic umbilical cord,” because we cry to have our emotional and physical needs cared for. But why do we shed tears as we grow older, when we can communicate in other ways?

Emotional tears flood our eyes for a variety of reasons. We may cry because of grief, frustration, or physical or psychological suffering. But euphoria, relief, and achievement likewise provoke emotional tears—in this case, tears of joy. Tears can also be contagious. “If I see someone else weeping—whatever the cause—I can’t help but feel moved to tears,” Maybe imaginary situations in a film or a book have also made you cry.

Whatever the reason, crying is a powerful nonverbal language. “There are few other ways to say so much in such a brief interval,” explains the book Adult Crying. Tears provoke reactions. For example, most of us find tears of sadness difficult to ignore because they alert us that someone is suffering. In response, we may try to comfort or help the one who weeps.

Some experts believe that crying provides a useful outlet for our emotions and that systematically holding back tears may damage our health. Others argue that the physical or psychological benefits of crying have not been scientifically verified. Nevertheless, surveys estimate that 85 percent of women and 73 percent of men reported feeling better after crying.

I cry easy and I am a man but I have always been kind of proud that I am sensitve even though it probably caused my schizophrenia. at least it was a big trigger…the day I became full blown psychotic I wept and laughed all the time because of the grandiosity of what I was believing.

I’m a big guy who’s been in some of the most macho and aggressive situations, and I cry all the time.

I cry in a ‘‘trance’’ a trance of dark thoughts …I call it sorrow…but I beat it by feeling well again…im learning too accept this part of me…

Crying releases the negative emotions and helps your body to process them efficiently. It’s actually beneficial to your health. Your tears also are full of hormones and things your body is trying to rid of (or so I’ve heard).

There are people out there who love to drink tears and swear they can feel the sorrow of other’s when they drink them.
(Makes me think of Mason Verger from Hannibal, haha.)
Lately I’ve had the problem where I get so upset and feel like crying, but I can’t. It’s hell not being able to…
When I finally can, which is rare, it’s the most relieving feeling ever, and after crying it feels like a massive weight is lifted off me. Further proving how important it is to cry.

Crying makes you neither weak nor strong. It’s simply a normal bodily function to help process negativity.

Benefits:
Crying just a little makes your eyes shiny and beautiful
Gets rid of excess salt
Cures dry eyes and makes contact lenses more comfortable
Good way to get attention from your significant other

Drawbacks:
Crying too much makes your eyes red and itchy
Tears are not good for your skin
People you meet afterwards can see that you have experienced emotions
You may get snotty
