Are the numbers real?

I keep reading that millions of people have SZ, but I don’t see it myself. When I was trying to find a talk therapist, I couldn’t find one with SZ experience.

In some countries. Talk therapists don’t specialise with ppl who have sz, or are not trained to deal with that. You might have to do it through the community mental health team which you are referred to via GP.

That’s what I did.

I have a therapist and she was surprised I have SZ. She said the majority are not functional enough for her to be able to work with them. This could be a big reason why.

That makes sense. I was thinking it may be challenging for a therapist to get through to some.

I noticed over the years some people in public that must have had SZ, such as a lady I saw appearing to argue with produce in a grocery store, or a guy I worked with that would shout out random things. But these were not too common.

It’s about 1 in 100 so if you go to walmart or a super market, there’s probably a few schizos there. I took a stats course and probability course. So it’s pretty weird to think about those things now.

I can’t believe though that schizoaffective is .3% of the population. It’s like extremely rare or something.

I think MI is more common than we think. I heard on the radio and even NAMI that 1/5 Americans experience a mental illness in their lifetime. Even anxiety or depression counts.

I couldn’t find a therapist w/ sz experience either. Had to settle for a regular one.

But I usually like my therapist because she is very helpful with areas of my life even if she isn’t the most knowledgeable about sz.

I will take what I can get because therapy is very well worth it.
