From Google:
“Haloperidol typically works within 30 to 60 minutes . A long-acting formulation may be used as an injection every four weeks by people with schizophrenia or related illnesses, who either forget or refuse to take the medication by mouth.”
They gave me a shot of haldol in the ER and said it works fast. I don’t know about pills. Usually they keep you in the ward a week or two for the med. To have full effect. My doctor said most meds. It takes two weeks for an effect. But a lot of literature says second generation antipsychotics have a 30 some percent efficacy. That’s why they typically put people on 2 antipsychotics.
I’m on 20mg olanzapine plus 5mg haldol. It hits me about 30 minutes after taking both. I was having a hard time sleeping on just the olanzapine but when they added the haldol i began to have better sleep the same night. Unfortunately, I’m sleeping so well that now i sleep 10-11 hours every night and feel like a big slug.
