An interesting point

Treatments that are effective in reducing the symptoms of schizophrenia do not consistently show a parallel improvement in real-world functioning (23), and the relationship between schizophrenia symptom severity and functioning is not linear: some patients with severe symptoms may function relatively well, while others with milder symptoms may show an important functional impairment (24). Thus, in order to understand functional impairment in schizophrenia, it is likely necessary to look beyond the impact of traditional psychotic symptoms.

Which are negative symptoms. Its these that represent your level of function and quality of life.

There is cognitive symptoms too but my negative symptoms are more severe than my cognitive symptoms.

I would definitely say there are more than a few here who function better than me despite having comparatively more severe symptoms.

You mean positive symptoms?

Idk if autism can cause that too. I don’t have autism.

Overall , the combination of negative and positive symptoms. My schizophrenia spectrum symptoms have always been at the comparatively mild end of that spectrum. There are some cognitive symptoms that are primarily explained by the ASD.

As someone replied to me on another forum:

Mate, you’re autistic*. This means that you’re likely to do really well in some things and really badly in others.

NTs tend to be the same across the board. So (blunt language sorry) a smart NT will be smart at everything, a stupid NT will be stupid at everything, an average NT will be average at everything.

That’s why most NTs are just average at everything. Or maybe slightly above or below but not likely to be disabled by not knowing or be a savant by knowing.

Aspies/autistic people have specialist areas where we’re really smart and then aren’t good at the rest of it.

Socially I don’t do well.I’ve always been fairly asocial, and failed attempts at socialising have increased that.
