How good is/was your non medicated ability to focus on things? I’m asking because a thread I started on the FB THIS High IQ Society - Elite Group has had several people mentioning ADD. I have mixed opinions about it. Focussing wise I do much better on things that interest me, and less so on those that don’t . I’d call that a normal human trait though.
The area where it seems to apply to me most is my EF deficits re organising and planning. The difficulty I have prioritising multistep tasks. Sometimes it’s like there are 20 TV channels switched on in my brain each showing a different programme.
Research I’ve recently come across re EF provides the best explanation so far for my mediocre academic achievement/results as a schoolchild. EF being a better guide to academic achievement in those of school age than IQ.
At 67 I’m not chasing after a professional dx. However to be able to say it’s due to something real, and not a character defect, would give me a big positive psychological boost. If I’d had a £ for every time I’ve beaten myself about it I’d be a rich person.
