That’s interesting, perhaps in the future drugs targeting the 5-HT2C receptors will replace current antipsychotics.
Wasn’t sure about the bit about decreasing motivation.
So by 2030 we might have one if these drugs.
Does it mean the following drug will work for schizophrenia, sorry…not clever enough to undertand the article?
lorcaserin
@hippogal just read the last sentence that’s what I did.
Bottom line, it offers a promising alternative to current antipsychotics with less side effects and more efficacy
( that’s what the last sentence says)
Btw I like your avatar.
It should. Locaserin is already available but they need to test it on schizophrenics first
Looks like the makers of Lorcaserin are partnering with another company to investigate use of their drugs for CNS disorders.
How does it work when an already approved drug is useful for another condition. Do they start at phase 1 testing, or can they go to phase 2, since it’s already determined to be (fairly) safe?
Id love lorcaserin to work as a AP, just imagine having weight loss as a side effect instead of weight gain
and yes they can start from phase 2 if the drug has already come out
