I quickly changed them at the bank to 50€ bills as I was scared of being robbed if seen with 500€ bills.

Didn’t even know 500 Euro bills were a thing. In the UK £50 notes are the biggest.

I didnt know either until I withdrew 2000€ from my bank account in Germany and they gave me 4x 500€ bills. It was to pay rent and school fees. I was studying German. After walking in the mall and street I went back to the bank and exchanged them for 50€ and 100€ bills.
