Im going be taking 40 mg of this stuff, does cause weight gain, is this good med for schizos.
Yea, I took a very similar med, Lurasidone but it gave me akathisia and nausea. It worked good for positive symptoms. I hope it works without side effects for you.
I didn’t have a good experience with it, gave me many debilitating side effects and did not help w my symptoms. It did not cause weight gain for me it actually caused weight loss. Just because it didn’t work for me doesn’t mean its a bad med, it worked really well for a friend of mine.
I find Ziprasidone quite good. I also take 40 mg twice daily. However, i found that it wasn’t strong enough for me (i had been on 80 mg twice daily but it didn’t really provide much relief) so they added some Clozapine to the mix and i’ve been pretty good since. It is relatively weight neutral, so that is also an added bonus of taking it.
I got TD from this med, tried many AP this is the only one what caused TD and lamictal caused tardive psychosis too in me
Not available in the UK if it was I would have tried … but remember each med either works or doesn’t and its an indivial thing…
Does it work if you have tried risperidone and paliperidone and both worked for you?
Risperidone didn’t work for me but ziprasidone did.
I hope it will become generic and they can sort out the financials as from what I have seen it has been in the US for a while, and they must have loads of evidence to support it.
I am not sure if I can continue with 3 times higher prolactin more than high range normal. I don’t want to be on Amisulpride for much longer. Over the years it can thin the bones. I feel the doctors are not taking this side effect seriously.
My now retired Doctor didn’t even tell me it was that high. I guess he thought it would cause compliance issues.
Basically if a drug makes you shut up, they’re happy to the detriment of quality of life and impaired functioning
I looked into it 10 years ago when I wanted an alternative to olanzapine … ziprasidone and ability looked like good options … opted for the latter as the other was not available
It’s a good med. No weight gain but other side effects are common
I’ve read in the past 40% chance of getting tardive dyskinesia i had it in my eyes, still do but its less over the past decade
