Your thoughts on Clozapine

For those on clozapine, I would like your feedback on side effects, pros, and cons. If you’ve never tried clozapine, what drug would you recommend? I’m currently on 156mg of Invega Sustenna. If you’re in the US do you still have to get weekly blood tests for the first 6 months?

Thanks in advance for your feedback .

I haven’t been on clozapine since last Fall…it gave me QTc prolongation and i had to stop it. But it was the best med I’d ever been on relative to helping positives and negatives. But the best thing about it was it decreased suicidal ideation. I would take it again if i could, whether or not blood tests are still required. I’m on Cobenfy now and it works okay but isn’t as good as clozapine.

I’m on Olanzapine and it is usually pretty good at decreasing sz symptoms. I’ve never been on Clozapine but its supposed to be the strongest AP.

I love it. It helps a lot with voices and delusions. The cons are drooling and constipation. After awhile the blood draws go to once a month.:dog_face::dog_face:

Been on clozapine for roughly 17 years. It is a very effective drug. It is so long since I started it, so I can’t really remember the side effects that I had when I started it. It does come with side effects, like every drug. I have found the pros better than cons. I can live with the side effects. Right now I am trying to lower my dose.

Try going to the first medication you ever took. That worked for me giving it time and was the best I’ve ever been. I decided no medication after which now led me to have tried various of meds but not clozapine.

Weight gain lasted about a year before settling

Have occasional drooling

Constipation is kinda manageable now with less laxatives

Tiredness in mornings is tough but lots of cigarettes and coffee helps a lot

Serum tests shows low levels even tho I take 550mg

The regular blood tests you get used to

It doesn’t treat everything but I choose not to go higher
