"You don't look obese"

My depot nurse came yesterday to check up on how things are going . I said I’d not gone out much because when I do I’ll go for a breakfast in a cafe . That I’m trying to eat more healthily .
I said I’m quite obese , to which she said that I don’t look obese.

It may well be true that I’ve lost some weight . My stepdaughter and granddaughters have said so, and so has my depot nurse. How much exactly without having scales to weigh myself is hard to tell . I was about 80 lbs overweight at one point . If I’ve lost half that I’d still be nearly 3 stone overweight.

My doctor keeps telling me I’m overweight, but everyone else says I look fine. I still want to lose weight though, I like being reallly thin

Neither being really obese or really thin is healthy .

I weigh 99kg. I’ve been told a healthy weight for me is 80-85kg, but I want to get down to 75. I felt I looked good when I weighed 75, I felt lighter and better clothes fit me. But people keep telling me that would be too thin.
I’m 173cm tall.

I’m pretty overweight right now but I think I look good. Like @Pikasaur, people tell me I look too thin if I get down to a weight that isn’t extremely low but still is lower than what people are used to seeing on me.

I’ve been briefly researching the health disadvantages to being underweight in order to not tempt me to go down that route

When I was underweight/close to it I always felt like I was about to faint, and I noticed illnesses lasted longer for me. Sometimes I dream about being that thin again and I wake up with fond nostalgia for it, but yeah, ultimately, those were not good times, haha.

I’m severely obese, but I don’t really look it anymore. I look healthiest when I’m in the obese BMI category. When I’m at a healthy BMI I look super sick and underweight. I’ve just got a lot of muscle, though, so it throws it off a bit. I mean, I still look like I need to lose some weight, but unless you saw the scale, you wouldn’t think I weigh and much as I do.

I like your post. You seem okay with your weight. Positivity looks good on you! Good going!

Doctors don’t base obesity on what you look like. They base it off of your Body Mass Index (your body fat percentage). I think 18% is healthy. Anything above that I think is overweight. Idk how it’s calculated though

BMI ranges

If your BMI is: below 18.5 – you’re in the underweight range . between 18.5 and 24.9 – you’re in the healthy weight range . between 25 and 29.9 – you’re in the overweight range .

Based on a rough guess as to how much weight I’ve lost I’d say my BMI is in the early 30s.

Not everyone that is overweight/slightly obese had health problems associated with their weight. That’s a huge myth.
