That’s my answer to a child’s question about why some people’s eyes are slanted, why some people’s skin is dark and some is light. I obviously don’t know any reason, so I just say you don’t argue with nature. It seems to suffice.

I grew up in a multiracial family. It honestly didn’t occur to me that we didn’t all look the same until I was embarassingly old. Like 12 or 13.
