Would you drive across America

When I lived in my auto in 2000-2002 I drove twice from Miami to LA/SF and back to Miami. I was then young and had courage to drive. My car was nothing special, just an ordinary Mazda 626. I drove from Miami to San Francisco in August 2000 and then back to Miami and just in less than six months after I drove again from Miami to Los Angeles and back to Miami. When I was my second time in LA I lived in my car nearly one month there in Feb 2001. It was quite interesting.

I would in a heart beat. I would do it in some big old Cadillac or some other old American 70s car.

I have thought about touring the US hostels in a long road trip.

In a motor home sure.

I don’t like driving long distances and a US tour isn’t high on my bucket list. So, in all likelihood it won’t happen.

I’ve been to Arizona on a school bus and back to North Carolina. Then fro. Colorado to New York in a car.

Not now. The longest drive I ever did was Oklahoma City to New Hampshire in 1985 when I was a young man.

Yes I would. But my husband would be the one mostly driving… I’d love to go on a cross country road trip right now

Not America no. Not a chance. Been there done that. I’d rather drive across Japan or Australia or some other country.

I don’t drive, but I did a 2-week road trip across Japan, with pals, back in 2013. It was awesome and I’d do it again.

Do you still keep a diary, @mjseu ?

No I am not keeping a diary any longer.

When I was a kid, my grandpa drove me and my brother from California to West Virginia. We would park at a gas station or rest stop at night to sleep in the car. The car’s air conditioner didn’t work and it was very hot the whole time. When we finally got to WV, my legs were so stiff that I could barely walk. I got to see a lot of things and some beautiful sights, and maybe I would travel the country again under better circumstances

Did it when I left New York. Piled what I could fit in my car, and took the long route.

It was a really unhealthy trip. I was on drugs and had girls in almost every place I stopped.

Washington D.C. during the Fourth of July with a girl I can’t remember her name. Stayed there for a few days with her.

Next stop was in North Carolina to visit some family, few days there.

Then I made my way to New Orleans. Stayed with friends for a few days, Played some dungeons and dragons like we did in the old days.

Next was Texas. Met up with a woman I met on the internet. He husband was out of town for a week on business.

Over to Vegas. Visiting old friends from back when I lived there. Partied.

And finally back to my home town in California.

Took me a few weeks, but it was a heck of an adventure.

I don’t know if I would do it again. I wasn’t in a mentally healthy place, but I’ve got some stories from it. It was probably a lot more dangerous than my drug addled realized.

I don’t drive but if you want to take me across the country I’ll help with the map if you don’t have GPS. I’d like to, but I get really tired out on trips. I have stayed within a five mile radius of my home for years.

I would love to hire a fast car and travel across the US.

In my 20’s I was looking up the rentals and flights, but I decided against doing it

My old school friend and I wanted to go to Normandy, France when I was studying history 2010-13 but we never made it unfortunately.

Eleven years ago I drove from Florida to Alaska, a 5000 mile trip I made in 6 days. I was a lot more confident (and reckless) then. I loved the feeling of not being attached to a place. I felt invincible at the time, everything I needed or wanted in the back of a pickup truck.

I would like to do this, someday, but I still need to learn to drive.

If mom ever dies on me, I will probably walk around the country like Cheryl Strayed, after.

I’ve thought of route 66 in the past. Texas is part of it in the panhandle.

I drove from Michigan to California in 1989. It was amazing. I drove to Florida and Pennsylvania before that. I was homeless about 4 years once. I think I made it to every state except; Rhode island, Delaware, Hawaii, Alaska.
