Work threats

The other day a guy at my work was apparently having a bad day and threatened to bring in an assault rifle and “take some people out.” Well today he was escorted out of the building, and fired. Now I’m concerned that he might really do it.

Eeeek. :astonished:

Reminds me of this piece of stand up though.

Jesus, that is a really serious statement.

What type of employment do you work at if I may poke at ya?

I hope everything works out okay, that’s a scary situation. He was probably just blowing off some steam when he said it, wouldn’t actually do it.

I work at a paper mill. Any one could walk in at any time, there’s no locked doors or anything like that.

What about security guards?

Not really. There is a gatehouse, but that’s at a different part of the mill. And @freakonaleash I would hope he was just saying it, but I’m sure being fired over it pissed him off even more, and these days you never know.

Yeah, it would make me awfully nervous, too, and I’m sure he is very pissed right now.

Was a stupid thing for him to say nowadays, hope he gets help for his anger issues. Stay safe

Hopefully he gets arrested by the cops before he does anything.

Report it to the police!!! That’s a terror threat

Gee I’m sorry! Hopefully he doesn’t actually have access to firearms. Maybe you guys can get a restraining order on him from the police? Or maybe have a plan in place in case he runs in armed? Like note the emergency exits, etc?

This is nothing at that level, but I once had a student get angry over a jeopardy trivia game I was using as a way to test their knowledge (there was a simple pen as a prize) and one of the students lost it because another student deliberately got the wrong answer and got them behind in points. She jumped up, got in his face, and starting yelling I WILL KILL YOU if you answer one more time! I will kill you! And then I was like hey you guys, no death threats, okay (had no idea what to do, thank goodness my supervisor was there). I was like oh she’s joking but two seconds later she was out of her seat shouting at him and saying I don’t joke, I will kill you! It was absurd, but luckily she had no real intention of killing anybody. I altered the rules a bit so he couldn’t give an answer, I changed it by making a “team leader” who was the only one I would take an answer from. That worked, but man was I shook. The game went on, the other team won, they got pens, and nobody got killed, thankfully.

Idk if the company reported it, but I wasn’t there when it happened, so I don’t think I can report it.

That’s awful. We’ve had threats of violence from ex-employees and claimants and we’ve had police and security guards stationed outside our doors in the foyer to the lifts. But we have locked doors at work so there’s no way disgruntled people can get in.

This is scary. Stay safe @anon68237654.

I’d kick that person out into the hall and tell them they’re childish, should just calm down, and will not be allowed to play any longer.

I work in an Army Reserve office building down the street from an Army Base. We’ve had a couple of bomb threats and I occasionally worry about disgruntled soldiers pulling a “Rambo” and going ballistic. It’s not that far-fetched.

That’s a great idea and I wish i had thought of that then!

Unfortunately work place shootings are becoming increasingly common place. Many companies do periodic safety drills with their employees including “shelter-in-place/active shooter” safety drills.

It’s a good idea to think about what you would do in various safety situations at work. For example, what is the nearest evacuation route in case of fire? Where can you barricade or hide yourself if there were an active shooter?

Thank you. It would have also been a good idea to call security.
