I’m really unsettled with my moods, not the extremes of bipolar where I’m manic or hyper-manic but I have periods where I’m low in mood with little motivation to do anything and don’t really leave the house unless I have too and other times where I’m happy and goal orientated where I make lists on what I want to achieve and I’m like this for a month or two then the low moods sets in again and I’m unmotivated and lazy, I’ve been low and unmotivated most of this year (apart from my commitment to not drinking alcohol which I have stuck too) and I’ve not gone on vacation which is unusual for me because I normally go abroad 2/3 times a year. I have 4 vacations abroad booked for next year and I really want to maintain stable moods otherwise I won’t go. Have you got any strategies on how to do this? Thank you.
The main way is medication, like how you need medication for SZ. Usually anti seizure drugs are prescribed or lithium if that fails. The side effects of these drugs is much more pleasant.
I was on deprakote 150mg daily but that made my mood flat as a pancake, no nothing.
Working out and eating healthy helps a little.
Sleep is important, and eating right and exercise.
I pedal my bicycle and play drums and race remote control cars and dance to music
In my book, flat as a pancake is much better than down all the way to hell suicidal.
My mood was very unstable for like 15 years with extreme lows and associated suicidality with many gestures and one serious attempt. Along with this, I was often in a mixed manic state with anger, irritability and verbal and sometimes physical violence towards friends, family and even strangers. Combine this with hallucinations in all sensory fields, some of which were absolutely torturing, religious ideas of reference which went on daily for decades, persecutory delusions and telepathic paranoia and I was a mess.
My mood symptoms just stopped one day when I suddenly fell out of obsession with my ex husband. And also by way of having religious experiences.
I still experience persecutory delusions, telepathic paranoia, and thought broadcasting (at times).
Through a cocktail of meds.
Risperdal
Depakote
Klonopin PRN
Good sleep habits is important and so is diet
I need to work on those
For me its a combo of latuda, lamictal, and wellbutrin .. well wellbutrin is newer but working already
