Why does everyone think we are so dangerous?

I was watching judge judy with my Mom and this guy was suing this lady because she left his son in the care of a schizophrenic for 30 minutes

People are afraid of what they don’t understand

Because the dangerous ones get more media attention than the non dangerous

Even judge judy was yelling at her for leaving his son in the schizophrenics care

Judge Judy doesn’t understand and is afraid of what she doesn’t understand… Honestly that makes me slightly dislike her… I loved her… Oh well

I still like her my Mom loves her but it does get on my nerves when she asks people if they are taking pills or had psychiatric treatment and its even scary because its court and Im sure it affects her decision

She’s mostly seeing if your testimony is reliable or not

My observation is that I think the people who she asks if they have psychiatric problems or are on medication are mostly people she knows are normal or are obviously normal but they’re acting weird like they may be on drugs or something. I don’t think she particularly picks on the mentally ill. Just people who act weird in general. I think sometimes she asks a person if they have psychiatric problems to be funny but at the same time she is serious, in the same way she makes fun of dumb people.

Well It might just happend there’s a confusion between psycopath and schizophrenia, but they both go as mental illnes.
Derogatory, people use the schizophrenic term as unable or unfit to do something, or to understand something. So the first reaction is a sz can not be able to take care of a child. Anything could happend.

Here’s the annoying truth. The average person, even many well educated people, believe that schizophrenics are dangerous.

I’m not going to defend judge Judy, but the potential is there in some. It all depends on the individual and also whether they are stable or in psychosis.

So, I’m kind of taking the middle ground here. If you had a child and all you knew about a person was they were schizophrenic, didn’t know them personally or whether they were stable or not, would you really want that person to watch your child? Be honest.

Again, not defending judge judy, but I think there two sides to this a bit and it depends on the individual and their circumstances.

Schizophrenics can in some cases, but not most, be potentially dangerous because of their false beliefs and irrational thoughts.

There are so many people who don’t think schizophrenics should be allowed to have children.

My “father”(not real father) is one of them.
He also doesn’t think poor people should be allowed children or people who don’t work.
Definitely doesn’t think someone on government benefits should have children.

He always said i should never have children.
They all said that i should never have children.

A psychotic schizophrenic or a medicated and stable schizophrenic?

I’ve seen judge Judy be hateful to people who don’t work.
She is clearly very right winged politically and that can clearly be seen on her personal views and reactions to people.

I am scared of myself from the thoughts I had before while med don’t work. I am a risky guy.

It not that I would harm a human but my decision and action will cause misjudgement ,

which may result in indirect irresponsibility.

Any ways we never find justice to any good thing we do. Because the hard truth is we are labelled mental.

Means unstable :sob:

As far as I know schizophrenics are about 2.5 times more likely to commit violent crimes. That’s a very similar number to African American men. If the woman had said I left my child with a black man and judge Judy started berating her she would rightfully never work again. I don’t see a difference. She’s an ill informed bigot.

And this is coming for a schizophrenic with many sz and sza friends I would trust with my life. Imagine how most people on the outside look at it.

Did it say how well the lady knew the schizophrenic. If the sz was stable and on their med’s then there should be no problem, but if the person is delusional or psychotic it might not be appropriate to leave a kid in their care.

When I was in my early forties my ex-brother-in-law hired me to watch my 11 year old nephew at his condo. I picked him up from his school at 2:00 and helped him with his homework, made sure he did his chores then kept him entertained by playing basketball, baseball or football etc. with him. I stayed until about 6:00 pm and sometimes fixed him dinner. I did it for about 5 or 6 months. I think I made $75 a week. I had no problem doing it even though my nephew was a spoiled brat.

Some of us are dangerous when we have no insight. Simple.

Lets not lie to ourselves, some unmedicated Paranoid Schizophrenics can be very dangerous. From my personal experience I turn into a demon without medication and can become a real danger to others.

Not all Schizophrenics are dangerous, but a few of us are and can be dangerous. I was dangerous, but now I’m very docile and calm, I got help. A lot are afraid to get help because they are afraid they will be locked away from everyone else for being different. All people need to learn how to deal with Schizophrenics that are in different forms and stage. In a way to help them get medication/ counseling extra.
This is how I feel about it.
