I read that Alzheimer, Dementia and psychiatric patients can become aggressive as a result of the disease. Is being evil in the brain then?
If your brain causes you to do evil your moral culpability is lessened or removed.
Psychiatric patients have weakened or underdeveloped executive function centers. Which help one in regulating emotions, thoughts. Behave and act accordingly. Be aware of social norms and limits. Plan things properly.
In neurodegenerative diseases there is just degradation of overall brain tissue including that of executive function centers.
Is being evil in then brain then question is not wrong but it is not correct either.
You should check case of Phineas Gage and others who had brain injury.
Recently read about guy who after developing certain brain tumor turned hypersexual. And started showing pedophilic behavior. His behavior returned to normal after tumor was surgically removed.
I was my Mom’s full-time caregiver when she was in the first stages of dementia, and she could get aggressive, combative at times but it came and went quickly and she was so frail I was concerned about her harming herself. Dementia is a very difficult matter.
Agreed.
I used to work as a nurse aide and rehabilitation aide in nursing homes. My floor was memory care as well. It’s sad to watch and hard to take care of
Everyone knows me for my anger. That’s how they think of me, an angry person. It seems like I lose my mind as much as a person can who is still sober, I get angry, I don’t know why, no mental health professional has thought it helpful for me to know!
I used to be a very hostile, angry person. I thought I had eliminated that from myself. Tonight I found out that I am not far from that at all. So, now I need to be wary of stupid things that might set me off for no real reason at all.
Lead poisoning (at least in the states) and fetal alcohol syndrome are super common in baby boomers and older gen X and are a legitimate reason for the whole “Karen” stereotype. Baby boomers/gen X getting aggressive and yelling at people over nothing is very likely due to lead poisoning or fetal alcohol syndrome.
Also, just because a disorder makes you aggressive, that does not make you evil.
Mental illness has no moral value. Losing your capacity to make rational choices does not make you evil.
If you’re coherent enough and choose to not follow treatment advice and then don’t take responsibility for your actions and just say well, I’m mentally ill, I can’t help it. Then maybe you’ve got an argument.
I think most things has to do with how your treated. This is not my speciality
This is interesting. Don’t agree completely but still.
Because Its one of the hardest Illnesses to endure and we don’t really get any credit or recognition partly…
We have a heavy burden to bear and that can tempt one to become angry. … Fulton sheen gave a talk once on how the mentally ill get no sympathy
