Yes. That name immediately comes to my mind when contemplating which individuals did the most to defeat Hitler. I’ve encountered some people on the internet who downplay Turing’s contribution, but the preponderance of evidence points to him. Aside from Turing, I might think that Winston Churchill played a huge role in the defeat of the Nazis. God knows there were problematic things about him.

I agree… not saying it is the right answer… he was keeping most of the Nazi force very busy in Europe… while his friends were engaged with a massively smaller Nazi force in Africa…
I was taught… America ■■■■ yea… we did that ■■■■ in like 4 days… bam saved all of Europe… with some help from England… Russia was lucky we stomped hitler…and just before he took Russia…
if Russia did not play the largest role…they hands down played the most under rated and historically down played role…of all time…

He made one catastrophically bad, war losing decision after another. If he had let his generals run the war there might have been a dramatically different outcome.

I think his most damning decision was when he broke the deal he had with Russia… imagine if the 2 had teamed up instead of butchering each other… I think the borders on modern maps would be very different…
I’ve wondered about that too. What would WW II have been like if Hitler hadn’t attacked Russia?
My short answer is the weather.
In 1941, Hitler made a huge blunder to pursue Stalin’s Russians into the much colder climate.

I mean alone Nazis took much land… could England survive a Nazi Russian mass invasion and bombing run long enough for America to even enter the fight… would America enter the fight at all… I almost said china might offer heavy resistance, but I think japan had that covered pretty good until Russia ran them off…so with Russia on the other side china would only fall faster…
Napoleon made the same mistake … Russians are used to the cold climate …
