Which sz is it?

Which subtype is it when you have been all types? Undifferentiated or disorganized?

There is only one in the book used by psychiatrists, the DSM.

Why do they have one book? Why not let them act independantly? What makes that book gospel truth? Even the Bible has several versions. One could say they have made the dsm more gospel than the Bible. I think they should act more independant to allow free thinking.

I think they’ve moved away from the individual labels to a more simple approach namely treatment. As sz people can present different symptoms something like the DSM is there as a guide. There is still an art to psychiatry it would seem.

Why have they done that? Cookie cutter approaches arent the way to good treatment. Psychoanalysis or philisophical aproaches seem to be left in the past.

Medications work over placebo and mental health costs a lot of money. Psychoanalysis wasn’t too effective in dealing with mental disorders as they have a structural/genetic base. Treatment with medications is the most proven course.

Yeah. We could always use better medications and better treatments but at our current technology meds are it.

Meds cost alot of money and they dont work for everyone. Not really that many show improvement in all things with meds alone. I know I didnt. Whatever happened to alternatives?

Meds are the best treatment right now. They work most of the time for positive symptoms. Alternatives simply don’t work at all, that’s why they’re not used anymore. Do you have positive symptoms on meds? Positive symptoms are worse than negative symptoms.

Some have negative symptoms on meds like me but that’s better than having positive symptomes.
I am waiting for better meds like Vraylar end of this year and others later like KartXT etc

Maybe you are content and fine with meds, but for many they arent what we believe in. Meds never helped me personally. Never treated my underlying issues, nothing. And, i dont enjoy having things forced on me. I went along with it several times, for a long time, but its not for me. I would never have taken them if given the chance. I gjess i did take zyprexa on my own, but thats becaise i just wanted to sleep. Is that really a good thing though? Being put to sleep? Negatives were much worse for me, positives i can deal with.

Why are you on meds if you never had positive symptoms or psychosis?

Its a matter of opinion, whether i had psychosis i guess of course. I got called it, i got disability. But, i have many issues, because of all this.

Ask your pdr to stop your meds if you believe you were misdiagnosed. I asked mine, he took me off meds and I got psychotic, I became homicidal and suicidal. I went to court to get out of mental hospital without meds vs my pdr, he won and they extended my hospital stay to 4-6 months.
I hope its not the case for you and that you will do fine without meds.

They have never put me in that long at one time, only for a few weeks at a time, Now look though, i can’t advocate too much against meds, because i will be banned, so you cant expect anybody to do much of that. They put me on court ordered meds before and my mother worked in healthcare, so she wants me to take them. Really the only thing i was guilty of was calling the psych court a kangaroo court, refusing to take meds, and having semi odd behavior, or just being on disability in the first place.

Can’t you ask your pdr about stopping meds now? Idk what you want, if you feel meds aren’t helping you simply ask you pdr to stop them, its simple, I did it and my psychosis was the worst, I nearly died from suicide, intentional poisoning from the voices telling me that I am Jesus and won’t die.

I can and have several times. But, they basically make you take the meds and see psychiatrist to keep disability reviews in order. And, my behavior continues to be odd. Technically i have sz, i just dont think the treatment is great and havnt or cant afford to seek out better alternatives. I have messiah complex also. Meds just add to it.

Yeah I understand I have severe negative symptoms and I stay in bed all day everyday. Used to play 30min Call of Duty a couple times a week but my pc is broken since a week. Did you try Abilify, Rexulti or Vraylar? I read they can be better for negative symptoms.

I also wish that they make better meds, I guess schizophrenia is the worst mental illness for a reason. I read its the 3rd most disabling disease after complete paralysis and Alzheimer/Dementia.

I was put on abilify once, but it made me sick and crazy. I agreed to take lots of things over the years. None of which changed anything.

One thing I say about the meds (abilify) is that it has kept me out of the hospital. Everything else was up to me, I think. After a 8 month stay in the hospital, I don’t want to go back. Originally after I saw a psychiatrist, he diagnosed me and put me on geodon then abilify, but I didn’t like it so I decided to take myself off of it… A year later I started that long hospital stay. I like to think some day I will have fixed enough things that I can be without meds but it seems unlikely.

Yeah, thats the truth of it. We took the meds to avoid someone forcing us in the hospital for not taking them. Case workers, doctors, family members, or cops sometimes. All can be insistant that we take meds.
