When you were young

I was diagnosed with depression as a young adult and as sza in my mid 30s. But as I look back there were many signs that not all was okay. I can think back on things around 10 years old.
What about you?

Yeah good thread.

Diagnosed major depression at 23. Smoked a lot of weed in the mean time because it helped calm a racing mind till it didn’t help and psychosis at 29.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I remember being deep inside my head really early. I thought too much and had racing thoughts for years and years. I still remember strange ocd behavior since I was in grade 1.

Yes. The signs were there for sure!

I suffered anxiety as a child and wet the bed until I was 10 years old which I put down to a narcissistic father. No issues at all when I left home living a very " normal" life with very normal relationships. It was not until I met my husband at the age of 28 that things started going down hill for me and after years of marriage and years of abuse, at the age of 45 was diagnosed with acute depression with psychotic features. My diagnosis was later changed to Schizophrenia by a different Pdoc. I have been fortunate to have never heard voices nor seen things, but my anxiety now is unbearable.

Diagnosed at 53 after ten years of keeping severe delusions and hallucinations secret. Treatment took 2 years to take effect. Paranoid symptoms started about 5 years before my first hallucination. Had some weird out of body non drug induced experiences in my teens. A lot of my early memories are wiped clean going back from age 25 or so. Depression is an issue now but not earlier.

There wasn’t a psychiatric diagnosis given to me that I know of till I was 18. However problems had been there for quite a few years.

I guess people who knew me when I was young would say I was ā€˜different’ , but this became really noticeable when I became a teenager.

I remember being paranoid when I was a young child. It became very severe in nursing school at the age of 23 but, I kept it secret in order to keep from getting kicked out of school. I continued to keep it all under wraps when working as a nurse because I didn’t want to be ousted out of the profession. It finally caught up with me at the age of 31 when I became severely depressed and suicidal and ended up in a psych ward.

I was 12 years old when I got diagnosed with depression and I used to believe delusional stuff, I think the cause was a tremendous pain I suffered when I was 4.

Yeah, same here! Ever since I’ve had memory, I’ve always been paranoid and extremely anxious. Very shy too, I didn’t have any friends and didn’t interact with the class kids. I always thought people were whispering about me or judging me. I was very wrong.

I always had anxiety growing up but I controlled it with exercise. I had a normal, happy adolescence. I had no prodrome, psychosis hit me at 19 like a truck.

Suffered with anxiety and severe panic disorder since I was a kid.
Then the highs and lows hit me pretty hard.

When I was 20, I was first diagnosed with schizophrenia then bipolar for many years.
Currently, schizoaffective was added to the mix.

I was diagnosed with schizophrenia in my late 30’s early 40’s after finally going to see a psychiatrist at my mother’s insistence. I was lost in delusions/hallucinations involving there being a nuclear bomb under the house and the military had helicoptered men in to disarm it. One of them was trapped under the house and moaning for me to help him. I was too frightened to do anything.
