What would you do?

So I bought some firewood off a new guy this year, and it’s so under cured it barely Burns

He was a hell of a nice guy, but that is my major heat source for the winter.

I’m calling him today about the issue, but I’m wondering if it’s going to wind up going to small claims if he disagrees.

Would you take it that far, or simply chalk it up to experience?

Won’t it just dry out on it’s own by the time winter hits?

Give the guy a chance to bring you some dry wood before you start thinking about suing him. He may not realize it’s wet still.

I doubt it. Firewood takes two years to cure, I’m pretty sure this load is only one

That’s what I’m planning to do, it’s not like I mean the guy ill. I’m just thinking worst-case scenario

Worst case scenario you get some dry wood elsewhere and use that wood later when it’s dry and have that guy give you half your money back?

What are you paying where you’re at? What type of wood?

I thought of that @Leaf but my bank account has run dry. It would cost me probably in the neighbourhood of $1,400 to heat my house this winter. I just don’t have it, and the wood shed is full I would have nowhere to put it anyway

I wouldn’t care so much, but that is my main heat source for the winter. Without it, I’m screwed

How much did you buy from him?

I bought four chords, which works out to be about $1,240. He charged me $310 a chord. Everybody else is $340

Have you looked all through the wood and it’s all wet? wow! What kind of wood?

It’s all hardwood, with a bit of Basswood mixed in. That seems to be true, no matter who you buy it off. Since they are cut and stacked together, I think it’s pretty safe to say it’s all the same condition

I’ve got a call into him now, just waiting to hear back

well, he’ll want a returning customer.

He’s got to do something to make it right.

@Daze @Leaf I agree with you both. He seems like a decent guy, maybe there’s just been an error. I’ve got to fix this soon though

Call right away to get this resolved. The longer you don’t say something the less likely you are to get reimbursed

I hope so too. I can’t afford the hydro bills if I heat with electric, this has to be fixed

It’s about $200 a chord in the Minnesota. We usually ask how wet it is before we buy. We depend on wood heat as well.

Just a side note I laugh my ass off when I see 6 thinly cut pieces of wood going for $5.99 at gas stations for camp fire wood. It’s crazy. We get our wood from the city brush and leaves dump. We usually get really lucky. Dad’s out splitting wood now with the gas splitter. I did it a couple of weeks ago.
