So Newron the company that is making Evenamide had great results in their phase II/III trial after which they were poised to find a partner to help with funding for continued trials. This was in June and they haven’t found a partner yet and apparently they’re losing a lot of money each month they don’t have one. I know very little about the business side of pharma and even less about stocks and trading. Can anyone explain what’s going on in this situation? Why with such great results are they having problems finding investors? There’s no way this drug just dies on the vine right? Even if the company fails some one will inevitably pick up the drug right?
This is from ScienceBusiness dotnet
They did an initial public offering (IPO). These are stocks:
[A leading light of the Italian biotech sector, Newron Pharmaceuticals SpA, is listing on the Swiss Stock Exchange, placing 2.2 million shares at an offer price of between CHF 45 and CHF 60. If all shares are placed, the company will have a market capitalisation approximately CHF 262 million to CHF 349 million.]
evenamide is a great drug with unique mechanism of action.i have high hopes on this drug.i hope it sees light soon.
@Aimingatremission @MIDO Evenamide will be used as an adjunct to antipsychotics. So it will be very useful for those with treatment-resistant schizophrenia.
If it could be used as monotherapy, that would be great. But unfortunately it did not show good results as monotherapy.
I think the the 008a study was conducted in patients with chronic schizophrenia so there’s evidence that it has the potential to benefit everyone with schizophrenia, not just treatment resistant patients.
It’ll be interesting to see if patients who have been on it for awhile are able to either reduce their dose or entirely get off of traditional AP’s. The effects of evenamide seem to improve over time so the fact that it didn’t work as a mono therapy might have been due to the fact that people weren’t on it long enough and had to immediately stop there AP’s to enter the trial. Also personally I don’t really care if it allows me to get off of traditional meds as long as it improves my quality of life.
I have the combination handy: Evenamide with Abilify.
