As some of you know I have schizoaffective disorder and so does my father. It’s actually my dad and mom I’m worried about. My dad hasn’t seen a psychiatrist in about two years. He was diagnosed sza about a year before that. I’ve known my whole life that my dad is sick though. Most of the symptoms my brother and I saw was paranoia especially about my mother’s fidelity while my dad slept around. He’s at it again claiming my mom is sleeping around with her own nephew. The stress is causing all kinds of problems for my mom, she’s very sick. I just wish I could convince him to go back on medication but he thinks he’s not sick.
wow, cbbrown, that’s tough. I am sorry for your mom. All I can think of is maybe get him that book “I am not sick and I don’t need help” ? I think that’s the name of the book. Have you heard of it? Perhaps your mom can get him institutionalized for his own good?
Dad can be stubborn and it’s kinda tough convincing he needs treatment. Mental illness at the heart of a family seems like. Very destructive. Take the measures necessary to get everyone stable. Be the doc of the house. My own father thought the same. That he didn’t need them coz the side effects. Admit there is a problem with his sanity. And he may question his own. Good luck
