What starts a delusion

Is it a simple thought that we get lost in?

Something would tickle/trigger my mind. Then I get anxious about it. Then the coincidences start and the paranoia kick in.

It varies…

My first delusions started from a genuinely scary situation that lasted too long for me to cope (years).

Emotionally i just collapsed. I felt overwhelmed by instinctual fear for my child and my flight/fight/freeze response was full on with no way to act on it. Mind switched to a higher level of “flight”.

Cognitively someone had literally been driving me crazy on purpose (even told me he would do that). Telling me he would kidnap my son or come after us everywhere. That kind of fueled paranoia.

Mine started after remembering certain things, too. My therapist said it was a way of not dealing with it.

Well, it was my own fault, i picked the guy. And became pregnant by accident (which i do not regret, my son is my biggest love).

We were actually incredibly lucky though!!! Many many lawyers said there was no way i could stop my ex from getting custody and visitation rights over my son. I worked real hard to prove the problem with that and eventually a judge went against cps and said: no custody, no visitation. We escaped.

I think it starts as something small that grows into something more. It’s like dominoes falling as soon as the thought takes hold then it is things associated with the first thought and next thoughts.

I kinda like to think of it as a virtual tumor of thought. It grows to something doing its own thing which is not connected to healthy thought.

It’s like I get signs, and strange experiences that manifest with my mind state, but I don’t realize what I’m going through until I talk to someone. I can look for keys, and get delusional but the bad ones I don’t realize until after
