What’s the best alternative(s) ssri to Zoloft

Since my pdoc won’t do genetic testing to determine the best SSRI for me, we have to do it the old fashioned way. Trial and error. The Zoloft is an amazing med for me but has the side effect of arm shaking. So the only way my pdoc will make a change if I say “let’s try ____ instead of Zoloft.”

For those with knowledge of antidepressants…what do you think a good one for me to suggest. I’m thinking Paxil.

what are you on zoloft for? i would say luvox and paxil would be best but it depends on what youre on it for

I chose Zoloft because it’s approved for PTSD. That’s why I started it and my depression, it also interacts with naltrexone in a good way but so do all SSRIs

Paxil and Luvox also approved for ptsd?

hm, im not sure if any of the other ssri’s are off the top of my head. ive been on both luvox and zoloft and found them equally effective, but that was for ocd rather than ptsd.
a quick google search tells me paxil is also approved for ptsd, so yes, i would go with asking for paxil

My suggestion is Cipralex. It’s a good SSRI with minimal side effects.

Have you tried Prozac? I had it when I was younger, it made me manic but that was before I had a mood stabilizer.

I had a horrible time discontinuing Paxil…really horrible. I was told by 2 psychiatrists they only prescribe Paxil when nothing else works. Read about Paxil discontinuation.

I have been on Paroxetine for a year, it is my favourite antidepressant, however it does cause sexual dysfunction. It interacts with many medications.

There are many other medications in the same class as Zoloft (specific serotonin reuptake blocker). Alternatives can include Prozac, Celexa, Luvox, Lexapro, Paxil. All of the drugs in that class may be helpful. You want to find the one that works for you without troublesome side effects.

I take luvox started taking it for sleep. But found out it’s an ssri and helps with sz. I don’t know if I feel any different on it

I’m on 20mg Lexapro and I love it. Great for mood and anxiety.

I’m on 40mg of Celexa. Works really well for managing my depression and keeping my anxiety in check(I also take Ativan for anxiety so can’t speak on how well it would work on its own)
